Virgin Mobile iPhone Carrier Image
If you can't find a better one somewhere, here is my Virgin Mobile iPhone carrier image to replace the somewhat annoying YES OPTUS writing that appears when using the Virgin network in Australia on an Apple iPhone.
Here is what it looks like:

I've attached the original PSD so someone can alter it and make improvements if they can be bothered. I've also included the two pngs you'll need to upload to your iPhone to enable the carrier logo change. I used Customize to replace the carrier image on my iPhone. Of course you'll need a jailbroken iPhone to do this, but you've already got one if you are using this on a Virgin Mobile network.
You'll also need to replace the Springboard with a patched one to override the setting allowing you to replace the carrier logo with your own one. The details on how to do this using a 1.1.1 iPhone are in the third post from the bottom on this forum: http://www.modmyiphone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6727&page=4
After that, just upload my files (the pngs) to /private/var/root/Library/Customize/CarrierImages
I created a folder called Virgin in the CarrierImages folder, but thats up to you.
I don't even know if I'm going to keep this logo on my iPhone because the Virgin Mobile logo and most of virgin's design work is pretty ugly. I just though I'd share it because I noticed people asking about it.
- Virgin Carrier PNG - This is one of the two pngs.
- Virgin Carrier PNG-1 - This is the second of two pngs to upload.
- Virgin Carrier PSD - This is the photoshop image, you only need it if you want to modify it.
Update
Here is a slightly altered version that pushes the icons to either side out a little and is slightly smaller in size. I think I prefer this version as it sits better on the top bar:

Hi,
I just wanted to express my appreciation to you for this, I have just successfully patched my iPhone springboard and downloaded your PNGs to put on my iPhone. I figure I may aswell put every PNG I can get my hands on so I can change when I feel like it.
Now I am going to create a custom R32 carrier image to show the guys over at www.r32oc.com. Its a forum for owners of the Volkswagen Golf R32.

i heard the Virgin Mobile in the US will not give you a SIM card to put it on the iphone, so how did you make vargin mobile work on the iphone?
thx in adv.
Hi Ben, I'm not is the US so I can't answer that question. But all I had to do in Australia is to hack the iPhone and put my Virgin sim in it. There are millions of tutorials on the web.
The iPhone is a great example of how mobile phone activation should be - enter your own credit information while you kick back with a martini in the comfort of your own home. Oh wait, maybe big-box retailers should offer full-bar service with every new phone purchase. Yea, that's the ticket.
Thanks for the informative post. You have really excellent posts but please change your background or font color of your posts. They are hard to read.
